Rebuild a UGC room from screenshots and memory
When the editor file is gone, a screenshot set plus spawn notes is enough to block out a room again. Perfect mesh recovery is not the goal.
Treat screenshots as plans: floor shape, prop clusters, circuit boards, and the joke that made the room yours. Rebuild the circulation first, decoration second.
Block the path, not the polygons
Players remember how a room moved, not every asset ID. Recreate the entrance, the first decision, and the pay-off space.
Circuits that defined the game should be written down as rules before you touch a builder tool.
Import later if a format appears
Openrooms is building importers for formats creators actually had. Do not delay a playable room waiting for a perfect converter.
Frequently asked questions
Is a video fly-through useful?
Yes. Pause on junctions and write a list. Video is better than memory and worse than an export.
Should I rebuild in a full game engine?
Only if you already work that way. The original’s audience was people who never opened Unity.
