The closest alternatives, and where each falls short

VRChat has the social depth and an active creator scene, but its building tools assume Unity, which is a wall for anyone who used Rec Room precisely because it did not require one.

Roblox has the creation ecosystem and the audience, but is not built around VR presence and skews much younger. Horizon Worlds is VR-first and has building tools, but a smaller population and a narrower creator culture.

What no current platform replaces

The specific thing Rec Room did was let someone with no engine experience build a room in an afternoon and have friends walk into it from a phone. Every alternative gives you one half of that.

It is also worth saying plainly that the published work is gone. Rooms that lived on Rec Room's servers are not recoverable, and anyone claiming to restore them is describing documentation rather than a playable space.
